One recent example is the work of the exceptional Deb Groves, a Samsic Security Officer stationed at EMH Group’s Whetstone House. Joining our team in 2024, and with just 6-months in the role, Deb’s exemplary approach to safeguarding, dedication and quick thinking have already made a life-changing impact on one vulnerable individual’s life.
A Vital Partnership
Since 2007, Samsic has partnered with EMH Group to support their care and support services across the East Midlands. These support services are comprised of multiple mixed occupancy accommodations, whereby residents can be vulnerable and may have come from backgrounds including homelessness, poor mental or physical health, and much more.
Samsic delivers a professional security service that features a strong safeguarding element. Our officers play a pivotal role in creating a safe and supportive environment for residents, ensuring the protection of both people and property. Key responsibilities include:
- Preventing vandalism and antisocial behavior
- Safeguarding service users
Deb’s Life-Saving Actions
In the short time Deb has been on-site, she has built strong, trusting relationships with many of the service users. She is personable and approachable, with one resident, in particular, enjoying spending time with Deb and often playing board games with her during her night shifts.
Recently, this gentleman was involved in a serious incident whereby his life was at risk. Deb’s rapport with him proved crucial during this crisis. She calmly de-escalated the situation, ensuring his immediate safety. Once safe, she moved him to a secure location and contacted the appropriate authorities, acting quickly to support him and ensure he received the urgent medical care he needed.
Deb’s actions saved this man’s life and highlighted her remarkable empathy and professionalism. In recognition of her outstanding efforts, Deb received our prestigious OSCAR recognition, along with a company award celebrating her life-saving actions.
Security Services as Essential, Life-Changing Support
Deb’s story showcases the essential and often transformative role of professional security services. By taking the time to build meaningful connections with service users, Deb established the trust and communication required to help safeguard a vulnerable individual. This approach proved integral to the quality of service delivered to EMH Group but has been indispensable to EMH Group’s own service users, who have stated that they feel protected, and trust that security is there to support them.
Empowering Public Sector Security
Samsic’s approach to public sector security emphasises a personable approach that maintains open and proactive communication with clients and management at all levels.
Our security officers are supported with up-to-date information and guidance regarding service users, difficulties on-site, and daily events. Their confidence is boosted with robust standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all scenarios and access to a cloud-based Learning Management System offering extensive training support. This training follows rigorous onboarding activities at recruitment level, to ensure each Security Officer is capable and right for the role and the requirements of the site. Officers are also in contact with Samsic management and our mobile security team, who can offer emergency support and backup on a 24-hour basis.
